30th IJSBA World Finals

Well... Roberts and I went to Lake Havasu City, AZ for the 30th Annual IJSBA Word Finals. I am worked as the assistant to the president of the IJSBA and Roberts is raced. Lets go back a few weeks to get the full story....

Roberts left for World Finals on Tuesday of the week before. It took him awhile to get out there because of some slight planning and traveling mishaps. On that same Tuesday my mom called to offer me a deal. She told me that if I were to cancel my trip and stay in Texas she would pay me double what I would be making at my regular job in a week. Roberts and I were short on cash so it peaked my interest. However, this was a little too late because I had already given my word that I would be there to work, and I had bought air plane tickets, and a rental car. I decided to go ahead with my plans and I am soooo glad I did. After a week of working hard and making 10 times what I would have made in a week I came home with a pocket full of cash and heart full of pride for Roberts, and Roberts came home with a 2nd place World title in Sport Spec and 4th place World title in Sport Modified on a STOCK boat!

I am so proud! He is so awesome!

Swimming

Today Roberts and I decided to go for a swim in the pool here at our apartment complex. We tanned for a little while and then I got hot and decided to get in the pool. Of course the water was freezing but I still wanted to do some laps so I jumped in. After swimming a few laps I was really getting tired so I decided to do the back stroke to rest. After a few laps I noticed that Roberts was getting ready to get in as well. I continued my laps and all of a sudden something hit me hard in the face. The next thing I knew Roberts was in the water with me telling me I was bleeding. So I walked to the edge and got a towel and Roberts checked to see if I had all my teeth. I did I just had two bloody busted lips. Roberts was trowing our dive rings in the water and somehow he had a bad throw that hit me square in the mouth. Most people would probably be angry but he was several yards away from the pool so there was no way he was aiming for my face. After some icing and ibuprofen it feels a lot better!

I shouldn't be complaining but...

I hate my job. I just started a job at the bookstore on campus and it SUCKS!!! It is the most stressful job I have ever had and it is only part-time AND minimum wage! It is THE WORST job I have ever had! After a long week last week I decided to call my former boss to see if he had any contact here in Recreation so maybe I could get a job in my field. He gave me a friends phone number from graduate school. I was so difficult to wait to call her today. I was so excited I left the most spastic message on her phone and sat down to wait for her to call me. About an hour later my phone rang and it was her!! After a quick conversation about me it came down to her saying, " well we just finished all the hiring"... BOOOO!!!! So now I am back to square one and when I left work today I wanted to quit. Now what do I do? :( Luckily I have Roberts and Caesar to cheer me up.

Eye Issues

When Caesar was three months old he had his three month vet appointment. The same day I realized that he have a very red watery eye. I mentioned it to the vet and he subscribed an antibiotic eye drop. Finally after he received his three month shots he was allowed to go to the groomer. When went in for his first groomers appointment our little boy looked like a hairy beast.

And he came out looking like this very hansom young gentleman!

After a week the eye drops didn't help at all and after he got his haircut we noticed maybe something else was going on so we went back. This time they suggested we continue the drops and they subscribed a oral antibiotic and a steroid.  We waited until all the antibiotics were all taken and nothing had helped. At that point we were sent to a veterinary eye specialist... I didn't know these even existed! So I called the next day and they had an appoint open for him the same day. We got him ready and took him to the eye vet. They did all kinds of tests and then let us know that his eyelid was turning in. This caused his eyelashes to irritate his eye causing his third eyelid to come up to protect his eye. They suggested surgery. I of course asked it this was something that would go away on its own and they said no the surgery was the only way to solve the problem. After consulting Roberts' family we called the next day to schedule the surgery which they had available for the next day. We took him in and he came out looking like this...
.
 and this...

He was very pathetic and the saddest thing of all was that he had to wear it for 2 weeks! We also had to give him at the most 4 pills a day. After a week he was feeling a lot better but his eye was still having the same problems. The eye was healing but the third eyelid was still up. We took him back and they did more test and then informed us that he has Horner's Syndrome. This means that eventually it will resolve itself. After his time in the cone he was so excited to get it removed. The eye vet then prescribed a new eye drop for the Horner's Syndrome. To learn more about Horner's click here.

The Winner is... Caesar. He is a Standard Poodle and was six week old when we pick him up.

Leaving Lubbock

We left Lubbock at the end of July. It was a very hard move for Smart, moving away from a very nice group of co-workers that became her friends. She has wanted to go to Tech for a very long time and has expressed to me that it was a dream come true.

For me (Roberts) it was difficult as well, I had a decent job that I enjoyed and had made some new friends. I also had dreams of going to Tech since Stuart had went there. But I know deep down that school is just not for me.

Smart and I had our ups and downs, living together for the first time.  We learned so much about each other and have grown so close. I appreciate every minute I get to spend with her and I have Lubbock to thank for that!

I know that Lubbock will always have a special place in our hearts.

It didn't matter afterall..

Well we didn't back from the lofts for months. After waiting all that time and continuing my search I found another set of apartments that were just being built. It worked out that they were going to be finished just in time for us to move in. They look great! They have granite counter tops, concrete floors, stainless steel, and the bathroom has a tub and a nice shower! I was really excited. After yet another waiting game for them to open up for applications. They finally emailed me at the beginning of this month and I immediately send in mine and Roberts'. Of course I was completely impatient and I sent Roberts down to the complex to turn them in. We were the very first lease of the apartments. I was very please and of course Roberts was embarrassed and annoyed with my inpatients!

Waiting Game

Well... After we went and saw the lofts they were AMAZING! I was ready to move in right then. Luckily I had Roberts to pull me down out of the clouds. He liked them too so that was good. We came home and waited a few days and I decided we had to put in an application! They were the only apartments that event got close to our standards and I didn't want to let it slip through my fingers. So after around 20 emails back and forth with the apartment people we are now just waiting to find out if we got the apartment! Cross your fingers!

Possibilities

This week Roberts and I went to a new place to decide if that is where we wanted to spend the next few years of our lives. While we were there I talked to an adviser to find out my options for school. We attempted to find an apartment and looked for jobs. Let's just say it was less than amazing. Our first day there we met with a guy at an apartment search place and he really helped up narrow things down. He took us to what he called "the nicest" apartments in town. I guess I have been spoiled by where we live now but nothing there even compared to what we have. Things in my meeting with the adviser went well so that was a bright spot in the day. The campus is really big and confusing to navigate so we got lost about 20 times. We went home that night without finding any jobs or an apartment.

On day two things were a little different. We looked for some jobs, and I found out that the job I was hoping for had been filled. boo. We were tired of looking at apartments and being disappointed so we didnt really want to look anymore on that day. Once we got into town we called my sisters boyfriend to see if he wanted to have lunch with us and he agreed we would meet at 12:15. This gave us around 45 minutes to waste. There had been some lofts that our apartment finder guy had mentioned that were a little above our price range and he said he would check them out for us the day before. We forgot about them so I thought we could go look at the before lunch since we were in the area. I got the maps on my iphone and we headed to find the lofts. After doing that same loop we got lost on the day before Roberts was ready to give up but I convinced him to try one more time and just to park and we could walk to them. After going up hill and back down hill and going on campus to search for these apartments it was obvious we were in the wrong place and Roberts was sure of it. We stopped to look at a map and a very friendly girl let us know we were in the wrong place. After all why would lofts that were not affiliated with the school be on campus? We slowly made are way back to the car and took our sweaty bodies to lunch. On the way I couldn't understand why Roberts kept turning the opposite way of the restaurant until all of a sudden we pulled up in front of the lofts. They were at the total other end of the street. I had my map upside down. Since it was already time to meet our friend we left and went to have a pretty good lunch by the river. After lunch and a little convincing we drove back to the loft to see if we could have a look.

Easter Eve

Well it is Easter weekend and Roberts and I headed home to celebrate! I was hoping to go see a friend on our way home which would make our drive around 7 hours instead of the usual 5 hours. The plan was to leave our apartment around 7:00 am, but like usual I slept in. We didn't get in the car until around 9. We were going to take our usual route and then veer off to go to our friends house a little further down the road. Of course the second we turned off the interstate we completely lost cell phone service! This meant that we also lost our gps signal on our phones and the map we had ready to follow. Luckily I used to live in that area so I decided that we would just skip the party and go home to see our families instead. After a about 6 hours of driving Roberts dropped me off at my parents house and he headed into town to see a friend. My family and I drove to town on a mission to change our cell phone service over to Verizon. After 2+ hours we left we a regular phone and 2 iphones!! Roberts got his iphone a few weeks ago and has been flaunting it ever since. I love my iphone and I have only had it for a day now! After leaving the Verizon store we decided we would have 5 guys for dinner and head to a movie. We met Roberts and his family at the theater to see Water for Elephants! It was really good! It followed the book really well and I really enjoyed it. After talking in the parking lot we drove home and relaxed before finally going to bed. It was a nice day to be able to spend with mine and Roberts families!

Flowers!

Yesterday after my post about our anniversary I got a call from a flower delivery company! Roberts had gotten me flowers. The guy on the phone said that the girl had gotten into the building and would be at my apartment in just a few minutes! I waited about 15 minutes and got another call... the girl was lost in my building. She was all the way on the other side of the building when I finally found her and my flowers are BEAUTIFUL!!!

3 years & Counting...

Three awful years ago today Roberts and I started our journey together. We have been many places and seen many things together and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Tonight we are going out to have a romantic dinner at a steakhouse here in town! Here to us and three years and counting!
